Math Lessons - NCTM Standards

Postby Kathy_Bautista » Thu Feb 25, 2010 1:48 am

Several of my colleagues used to teach math in their former lives, and have created some sample lessons covering a variety of math topics. Each includes the NCTM standard which each lesson fulfills.

If you're relatively new to Mathematica, these ready-made example lessons can give you a jumping-off point for using Mathematica in your classes...and give you a sneak peak at what's possible with Mathematica.

More are forthcoming, so stay tuned!

Hi Kathy

My university sponsored my Mathematica 7.0.1.0. I will like to use in teaching Mathematics and Statistics. Can I use your samples lessons? I will like to make some changes if possible. How can I clear copyright if any?

Some of my students needs detailed solution steps. Is this feature available in my version of Mathematica?

Best regards

Hi Stanly,

Yes, all of these lessons can be modified as needed, so you're welcome to make changes and use them for your Mathematics and Statistics classes.

Although Mathematica does not show the steps it took to find a solution, it is possible to do so with relatively little work. In fact, many users have created functions that allow you to show the steps for solving integrals and equations. e.g.
http://blackbook.mcs.st-and.ac.uk/~Peter/djmpark/html/

Another example of this is Wolfram|Alpha (created with Mathematica), which will show steps for select calulations when you click on "Show steps". e.g.
