Wolfram Mathematica Privacy Policy
Some services provided by Mathematica require
Mathematica to access our servers through the internet. When this
occurs, our servers
receive information similar to the information that would be received if
you were browsing a website, together with your Mathematica
License Number
or Mathematica Activation Key and Mathematica machine
ID. Utilization of the Wolfram|Alpha functionality will trigger the
collection of information about the specific query. Additionally, some
queries may require an expanded set of information collection that can
include session information covering the history of Mathematica
evaluations or the content of Mathematica notebooks containing the
Wolfram|Alpha query. You will be given an opt-in prompt on a per-session
basis about this expanded Wolfram|Alpha information collection feature.
Certain functionality in Mathematica allows integration with Third-Party Sites (TPS), including but not limited to social networking sites such as Facebook.
Should you utilize such functionality, we may collect personally identifiable information about you from the profile you have established at the TPS. By authorizing
Mathematica to access your TPS profile, you are authorizing Wolfram Research to collect, store, and use in accordance with this Privacy Policy any and all
information that your privacy settings at the TPS allow Mathematica to access through the TPS application programming interface (API). The personally
identifiable information that Mathematica is allowed to access is affected by the privacy settings you have established at the TPS. Because the linkage
between any TPS and Mathematica is completely voluntary, and our ability to access your information at the TPS requires that linkage, you have a choice
whether or not to disclose such information.
You can choose to prevent Mathematica from accessing our servers by disconnecting from the internet, or by telling Mathematica not to connect to the
internet by using the Internet Connectivity item in the Help menu. If you choose not to allow Mathematica to access our servers, Mathematica will not
be able to perform certain functions.
Wolfram Research understands your concerns about how personally identifying information is used, and we endeavor to use such information carefully and sensibly.
We collect information on accesses to our servers by Mathematica in order to enhance and refine our service and content, and to prevent abuse and non-licensed use.
Under normal circumstances, we will never release information on accesses to our servers by Mathematica. We may, however, do so when we believe release is
appropriate in order to: comply with law; enforce our License and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Wolfram Research, our users,
data providers, or others. When you visit our website, we, like most websites, send one or more cookies—small anonymous identifiers—to your computer that uniquely
identify you to our servers. While we do use cookies for security and fraud investigation purposes, our primary purpose is to enhance your user experience by understanding
and remembering your preferences, and by general tracking of our user trends. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, but you can configure your browser to
accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or to notify you when a cookie is sent. Please be aware that Mathematica may not have full functionality if your browser refuses
cookies. We utilize the following types of cookies:
- Strictly Necessary Cookies: These cookies are strictly necessary to provide services that you have requested on our website.
- Functional Cookies: These cookies support and facilitate your use of our website by enabling enhanced and personalized features.
- Performance Cookies: These cookies collect information that we utilize to support the measurement of this website.
- Targeting Cookies: These cookies are used by social sharing services (such as Facebook), and also by various third parties to
deliver messaging that may be of value or interest to you. We do not have access to read or write such third-party cookies, nor
do we directly control the manner in which they may be used.
We may update or modify this Privacy Policy from time to time in the future. Any such updates or modifications shall be effective immediately upon their posting.
