Wolfram Research Adds 64-Bit Platform Support to Mathematica for Students
March 18, 2005--Mathematica for Students is now optimized
for 64-bit AMD and Intel desktop platforms, enabling students to run
larger and more complex calculations than possible on current 32-bit
processors. This release also delivers all the capabilities
of Mathematica 5.1--the latest version of the world-renowned
science and technology software system--to students at a special low
price.
Version 5.1 introduces major capabilities for diverse data handling,
in addition to serious speed and algorithmic enhancements. This update
includes several new features particularly useful to students from the
high-school to postgraduate level, including:
- Built-in universal database connectivity
- Import/export of Excel data and export of AVI animations
- Fully integrated piecewise functions
- Event handling in differential equations
- Interactive exploration of differential equations
with EquationTrekker
- MathematicaMark2004 benchmark suite
- GUIKit custom interface and application builder
Using Mathematica, students complete their coursework in record
time with easy-to-use functions that quickly tackle the most
complicated problems in any technical field. At the same time, they
build the skills admired by top technical enterprises and research
institutions--including every Fortune 50 company--that
use Mathematica everyday. Mathematica's underlying
document technology also makes it easy to produce high-quality
technical papers, lab reports, and lively scientific presentations.
"Students today are working on increasingly large computations and highly
sophisticated problems that demand the same high-performance software
professionals use around the world," said Lars Hohmuth, manager of strategic
marketing at Wolfram Research. "Mathematica takes full advantage of the
64-bit architecture, giving students access to new levels of research that
they couldn't otherwise pursue on their personal machines."
Standard, annual, and semester versions of Mathematica for
Students 5.1 can be purchased at the Wolfram web store starting under US $50. More information is available.
