Control System Professional 2: A Comprehensive Control System
Environment with Integrated Symbolic
Capability
March 17, 2003--Control System Professional is an object-oriented environment
used by professionals, researchers, and students in
all areas of engineering as well as in economics, biology, and the physical sciences.
It covers all steps from creating and manipulating both symbolic and numeric models
to analyzing, designing, and simulating control systems.
New functionality in Version 2 includes:
- Intuitive typesetting and editing of control objects in the traditional and standard forms
- Improved connections and conversions between StateSpace and
TransferFunction objects
- Support for interconnections of multi-input, multi-output transfer function systems
with SeriesConnect,
ParallelConnect, and FeedbackConnect
- Support for analog simulations in StateResponse, OutputResponse,
and SimulationPlot
- Faster discrete-time domain simulations and ordered Schur decomposition
- Performance optimization through internal caching
Control System Professional handles linear MIMO (multi-input, multi-output)
systems as well as SISO
(single-input, single-output) systems in both time and frequency domains.
It handles state-space and transfer-function models of
continuous-time (analog) and discrete-time (sampled) systems and freely
converts between the types of models and the domains.
Control System Professional has all the tools needed to construct
composite systems of arbitrary complexity. Many system
manipulations, such as selecting or deleting subparts, can be made with a single
command. Built-in response functions
make it easy to investigate how systems respond to perturbation. Feedback
design tools include pole assignment
algorithms and linear-quadratic optimal control tools. The varied techniques
allow users to quickly reduce the order
of their models. Control System Professional also provides several
linearization techniques, including Padé and minimax approximations, to study the
dynamics of nonlinear systems.
In addition to integration with the Mathematica Help Browser, the package
comes with a 228-page manual that
describes its functions and provides hundreds of examples. Case studies are
presented for inverted pendulum and magnetic ball
levitation systems, a production and inventory control model, depth control of a
submarine, lateral dynamics of an
aircraft, roll attitude control of a missile, concentration control of a chemical
mixture in a mixing tank as well as for
PID controller, minimum-time response controller, and others.
