Meet the Instructors: Rémi Barrère
Organization/Location
ENSMM, Besançon, France
Degrees
Diploma in Engineering, ENSMM
Ph.D. in Mathematics, University of Franche-Comté
Teaching Experience
Rémi Barrère teaches and does research at the University of
Franche-Comté in
Besançon, France. He teaches basic and advanced courses on mathematical
applications and modern math as well as courses on the use of
mathematics in physics. Topics he has taught include tensor calculus; various
methods of optimization; analysis of Laplace transforms; distributions
and convolutions; differential equations and partial derivatives; statistics and
probability; and algorithms. Using the versatility of Mathematica, he is now
experimenting with the teaching of scientific calculus in the form of models and
simulations.
Mathematica Experience
Barrère has used Mathematica since the beginning of the 1990s
in teaching as well as in research. He teaches Mathematica in the
form of personal work framed in
modeling and simulation on subjects in mathematics, data processing, physics, chemistry,
and technology. His research relates to the
representations and the approximations of symbolic systems in scientific computation,
such as the relation between logic and algorithms.
He is the moderator for GroumF (the electronic list of French users of
Mathematica) and
regularly presents his work at conferences such as the International Mathematica
Symposium (IMS).
He is the author of the book Mathematica: Calcul formel et
programmation symbolique pour l'informatique scientifique.
