Seminar Objective
This seminar illustrates, using concrete applications, how to work with datasets
that have been imported into Mathematica using the Import function and
how to export the results. The seminar is intended for individuals who
are familiar with the Import and Export functions in Mathematica and illustrates a variety of processes that are commonly
used to manipulate data from various file types.
Presenter
The seminar is presented by a senior member of the Wolfram Research technical staff.
Topics
Excel Files
Importing an Excel workbook, formatting the data in Mathematica,
extracting selected data, fitting models to the data, and exporting the
results
Text Files
Importing a text file, extracting data from the file, and manipulating
the data to construct a 3D model
HDF Files
Importing an HDF file, getting information about the contents of the
file, and manipulating one dataset to produce a color map of
the data
DXF Files
Importing a DXF file, using the data to construct a
GraphicsComplex, separating the original image into components, and further manipulating in Mathematica
FASTA Files
Importing two FASTA files, using Mathematica to find
similarities between two organisms, and efficiently sorting the data
by sequence length to increase the performance
Delivery Type
The seminar is delivered online using Adobe Acrobat Connect. Use any one of the
supported web browsers on
your computer with Flash Player installed. Once you have registered for a session, you will receive a
confirmation email with a seminar login link. To see and hear the
presentation, click the link at the scheduled time, then simply log in
to the online seminar.
Adobe Connect natively supports streaming audio and video. A
telephone audio conference is also available, should you prefer to
join via phone; a toll-free number is provided for callers in the
U.S. and Canada.
For additional information about online seminars, see the FAQs.
Materials
Mathematica notebooks and example files will be made available at the
end of the presentation.
Prerequisites
Some knowledge of Mathematica's Import and Export functions will be
assumed. The focus will be on processing the data in Mathematica and
exporting the results.
To sign up, see the online seminars registration
and calendar page.
