Mathematica is used in thousands of academic institutions, research labs, and companies around the world. It is deployed both as an interactive calculation tool and a programming language across fields as diverse as engineering, science, finance, and education. For details, see the Mathematica website.

Ulises Cervantes-Pimentel, a senior kernel developer at Wolfram Research, Inc. (WRI), is the main developer of the new visualization functions in Mathematica 6. He has a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and did his undergraduate studies at the Escuela Superior de Física y Matemáticas Instituto del Politécnico Nacional (IPN-ESFM) in Mexico City. He was a systems analyst at the Bank of Mexico, and did an internship at the Petroleum Mexican Institute (IMP). Cervantes-Pimentel has four years of experience as a Calculus/Mathematica instructor at UIUC. At the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), he has also done research in computer-assisted virtual environments and distributed computing development. Currently, he is developing and implementing state-of-the-art visualization algorithms at WRI. Cervantes-Pimentel gave several presentations on the new technologies in Version 6, in both Europe and the United States.
