Mathematica Trainer: Ken Levasseur
Ken
Levasseur provides training courses through the UMass Lowell CyberEd system. His
course "Computer Algebra with Mathematica" is an online,
three-credit
university course. It is designed for Mathematica beginners
who have completed at least two semesters of college-level mathematics
and one semester of programming.
Ken Levasseur is a 1971 graduate of Saint Anselm College. He earned his
Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Rhode Island in 1980 with
a research specialty of approximation theory and as an advisee of Jim
Lewis.
Since 1980 he has been a member of the Department of Mathematical
Sciences
at UMass Lowell. His primary interests are discrete mathematics,
applied abstract algebra, and problem solving. Ken has been a
Mathematica user for almost 10 years (since Version 1.2) and is
the author of several
articles on Mathematica. He was a Visiting Scholar at Wolfram
Research in 1995 and 1996.
Levasseur is a coauthor with Al Hibbard of the forthcoming
Exploring Abstract Algebra with Mathematica (EAAM)
(TELOS/Springer-Verlag, 1998). EAAM, a suite of packages
accompanied by a
guide and a series of group and ring labs based on the packages, is
designed to help students explore concepts of abstract algebra.
