Mathematica Trainer: Keehong Song
Keehong Song has been using Mathematica since its introduction in
1988. He was widely recognized as the first one to teach Mathematica
and Java in a university classroom in Korea and has always been swift in
introducing advanced technologies into the classroom. Representing his own
philosophy as a Mathematica evangelist, he has been active in
advocating the use of Mathematica through various channels including
major news media.
Outside of the Department of Mathematics Education where he teaches, Dr.
Song has taught various Mathematica-related courses for many
departments including
Mathematics, Computer Engineering, and Industrial Engineering. These
courses cover programming language, probability, statistical data analysis,
discrete mathematics, combinatorics, and numerical analysis. He has also
given weekly lectures for university students and for professionals during
the summer/winter session.

Dr. Song has served
as a member of the National Scholastic Achievement Test (Korean SAT)
Committee, which plays a pivotal role in setting the standards for the high
school curriculum in Korea. On this committee his function was to assess the
need for changes
in the high school mathematics curriculum in light of the advancement in
technology. In other Mathematica-related experiences, he has served in
two university institutional positions as Associate Director of the
Computation Center and Software Development Manager of the Science
Education Center.
Dr. Song received both his B.A. in Computer Sciences and his Ph.D. in
Mathematics Education from The University of Texas at Austin. He taught at
The University of Texas at Austin and Austin Community College and is
currently an Associate Professor at Pusan National University in South
Korea.
Dr. Song is starting MathC, a company that specializes in teaching
mathematics and Mathematica using web technologies. His research
interests include web-based education, human factors research in user
interface, statistical data analysis, visualization of mathematical concepts,
and algorithm animation.
