Features: Version Control

Version control is the management of multiple versions of a resource such as a source file. It is an essential aspect of any large project and technology, and an important part of modern software engineering.

Wolfram Workbench contains a very convenient interface to Concurrent Versions System (CVS), one of the most popular forms of version control. This interface provides ready access to version history, user notification when a file from a CVS repository is modified, and convenient comparison and merging tools. It also comes with a secure shell implementation, thereby avoiding extra installation and configuration on platforms such as Windows that do not come with a secure shell.

A CVS comparison is shown below. This shows all the differences in a file since it was taken from the CVS repository. In this case, in the local file a parameter was changed from "1" to "2".

After you have made changes to your code you can commit them to the central repository. This brings up a dialog that lets you confirm what you are doing and enter a description of your change.

Once the commit has taken place, any user with access to the repository can obtain your changes.
