Notebook Overview
Notebooks are a rich authoring environment
Notebooks support sophisticated mathematical typesetting, standard
word processing features, and hyperlinks. Authoring in a notebook
allows you to keep all of your calculations, results, and comments in
a single document.
You can quickly change a notebook's appearance to suit your needs
You can quickly select the font, style, and size of
different components of a notebook. You can select one of dozens of
document style sheets, or you can alter a style sheet or create your
own. On the most advanced level, you can customize every aspect of the
notebook's appearance.
Notebooks are versatile
Your mathematical expressions and calculations are "live,"
so others can retrace or expand them. Notebooks are stored as plain
text even if they include mathematical or international
characters. You can send notebooks by email or put them on a website
or FTP site without affecting their quality, use them to create
high-quality printouts easily, or translate them to other document
formats such as TeX and MathML, part of the XML standard.
