Wolfram Compute Extension
Put every core to work. Add compute processes to your license, put more of your CPU cores to work and finish large parallel jobs sooner.
More Parallel Capacity, Same Wolfram Workflow
Compute Extension expands the parallel processing capacity of your existing license. Keep working in the same product, on the same hardware, with the Wolfram Language code you already use.
Finish parallel workloads sooner
Run more independent tasks at once so big parallel jobs finish in less time.
Put more cores to work
Expand beyond the compute processes included with your license.
Keep your existing parallel code
Code you already run in parallel can use the added processes.
Add capacity as you grow
Add another Compute Extension whenever your workloads outgrow your capacity.

One Compute Extension Doubles Your Starting Capacity
Each one adds the same number of compute processes your license already includes.
On a Single-User License
Added processes attach to your own license and are available whenever you need them. How many you get depends on your plan.
Student & Personal
+816 total processes with one Compute Extension
Professional
+1632 total processes with one Compute Extension
Power
+3264 total processes with one Compute Extension
They stack in the same increments—Power with two Compute Extensions runs 96 compute processes. 32 + 32 + 32 = 96
On a Network License
Added processes join the pool available to eligible users. Capacity is shared on a first-come, first-served basis rather than assigned to individual users.
Pooled, not per person
Every eligible user draws from the same capacity. Nobody holds a fixed share, so whoever needs processes can take them while they are free.
Sized to your team
Per-license capacity differs from single-user. Talk to us and we will configure the right amount for your users, hardware and workloads.
Choose the Right Way to Scale
There are several ways to scale depending on what your work needs.

Compute Extension Q&A
How do I add a Compute Extension?
Contact us with your license, the workloads you need to run and the CPU cores available to you. We will confirm how many Compute Extensions your license can take and handle the rest.
Do I need to configure anything on my license?
No. On a single-user license, you enter an updated activation key, and the added capacity is available. On a network license, we update the license your server manages.
There is nothing to install, and your existing code does not change.
What exactly does a Compute Extension add?
It adds compute processes to your existing license, increasing the number of parallel tasks your Wolfram product can run simultaneously.
Each one adds 8 compute processes to Student and Personal licenses, 16 to Professional and 32 to Power single-user licenses. They stack, so you can add more than one.
Network licenses use a pooled set of compute processes, configured for your organization. A Compute Extension doubles that pool in the same way. Talk to us and we will size it with you.
Which products can use Compute Extension?
Compute Extension is available for Mathematica, Wolfram|One and Wolfram Finance Platform.
Availability includes Student, Personal, Professional and Power plans, depending on the product and license type.
Does it add users or seats?
No. Compute Extension adds compute processes only. Your number of users, seats, simultaneous activations and concurrent sessions remains unchanged.
If more people need access to your Wolfram product, contact us about the appropriate licensing options.
Do I need to change my parallel code?
Not if your Wolfram Language code already uses parallel computation. Existing code using functions such as Parallelize, ParallelTable and ParallelEvaluate can use the additional compute processes without being rewritten.
Code that currently runs serially must first be parallelized to benefit.
Will more compute processes make everything faster?
Yes, for work that runs in parallel. Code that already uses parallel computation can put the additional processes to work right away, and workloads that divide into independent tasks benefit most.
Serial computations run as before. Actual gains depend on the computation, your available CPU cores, memory and other hardware characteristics.
Does Compute Extension provide additional hardware?
No. Compute Extension expands the compute capacity licensed for use by your Wolfram product. It does not provide CPU cores, memory or other hardware resources.
How is this different from gridMathematica?
Compute Extension adds compute processes to an existing Wolfram product license, allowing it to use more of the CPU capacity available to it.
gridMathematica is a separate legacy product for distributed parallel computation across multiple machines and shared computing infrastructure. Contact us and we can help you find what fits your needs.
What if my hardware cannot do the job?
Use Wolfram Compute Services. It runs your jobs on remote infrastructure so you can pick the cores, memory and GPU a particular workload needs instead of being held to the machine you own.
Compute Extension lifts the license cap on hardware you already have (or have access to), and a well-specified local machine can outperform the cloud on many parallel workloads. The question is not which is faster in general—it is whether your own hardware can do the job at all.
How does Compute Extension work on a network license?
On a network license, the added compute processes become part of the shared capacity available to eligible users.
That capacity is currently allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Any eligible user can draw from the available pool until it is fully in use.
Contact us to help size the pool for your team and typical workloads.
How is this different from moving to Mathematica Power?
Compute Extension adds compute processes only.
Mathematica Power combines greater included compute capacity with additional benefits, including AI Access Pro, three simultaneous desktop activations, EnterpriseCDF deployment, additional Service Credits and advanced technical support.
If compute is your only need, Compute Extension is the more focused option. Compute Extensions can also be added to Power when its included capacity is not enough.
What happens to added capacity on a perpetual license?
Compute Extension capacity bought for a perpetual license stays with that license if your subscription or service plan later lapses.
Adding capacity does require your license to be current. Contact us and we will confirm the requirements for your license before you buy.
What does a Compute Extension cost?
Pricing depends on your Wolfram product, license type and how many you add.
