Diego Oviedo-Salcedo became a Mathematica user shortly after Wolfram Research released Mathematica 6. He participated in the International Mathematica User Conference in 2008 and 2009. He is using Mathematica intensively for his research, "Uncertainty and Risk Quantification of River-Aquifer Systems using Reliability Analysis." As a TA he prepares in-class material, homework, and problem solutions with Mathematica. He has also developed Mathematica notebooks in geostatistics and reliability analysis.

Oviedo-Salcedo has been an instructor since 1998 in the School of Civil Engineering at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Currently he is a PhD candidate in civil engineering at the Environmental Hydrology and Hydraulics Engineering program at the Ven Te Chow Hydrosystems Laboratory, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he is a research and teaching assistant. He came to the United States sponsored by the Fulbright Scholarship Award under the Faculty Development Program. Once he completes his graduate studies, he will return to his home country to continue his academic career as faculty and as a Mathematica instructor in Latin America.
