FAQ

Who is the Wolfram Data Science Boot Camp for?

Anyone who wants to be able to do the latest practical data science—at any stage of their career or education.

What do I need in order to participate?

You'll need a computer running the latest version of the Wolfram Language, a reliable internet connection, any dataset of specific interest to you and the willingness to explore. A 30-day license to Wolfram|One will be provided upon request. Due to the online nature of this boot camp, please allow sufficient time to prepare and test your webcam, audio settings and internet connection ahead of the start time. Watch your email inbox for your join links.

How much programming do I need to know before the boot camp?

None! The extreme automation of the Wolfram Language means it's easy for anyone to do high-level programming. If you have experience with the Wolfram Language, you'll be at an advantage. The first days of the boot camp will be devoted to introducing Wolfram Notebooks and the Wolfram technology stack. If needed, there will be tutors available to provide hands-on help for getting started.

Do I need to know math to do the boot camp?

You'll be able to go through the whole boot camp with high-school-level math (for example, you won't need to know calculus), but if you know more sophisticated math, there will be ample opportunities to make use of it.

What will I come away with from the boot camp?

In addition to hands-on knowledge of multiparadigm data science, you'll have computational essays you have written. All campers will receive a certificate of boot camp completion. Campers who demonstrate applied expertise with a completed project will become Wolfram Certified Level II in the area of multiparadigm data science.

Can I bring proprietary data to the boot camp?

To optimize the peer learning experience, we suggest that data used during the boot camp is something that can be shared with other attendees. However, special arrangements can be made, and our instructors will be operating under our standard corporate NDA.

How does the boot camp compare to the Wolfram Summer School?

The Wolfram Summer School is a selective program for people with good Wolfram Language experience who want to carry out an original project using Wolfram methodologies. The Data Science Boot Camp is intended for a broader audience but concentrates specifically on data science.

How much does it cost?

The standard rate for the two-week program is $2,000. A discounted rate of $1,000 is offered to educators, retirees, government and nonprofit employees, and hobbyists. A student rate of $500 is offered with proof of student status. Your boot camp registration includes lecture and exercise notebooks and 30-day license to Wolfram|One with full access to the latest version of the Wolfram Language. Service plan subscribers and individuals using products through an organizational site license will receive a 15% discount.

What if I need to miss a lecture or other session?

We understand that some participants may not be able to completely clear their schedules in order to attend every session. Recordings of lectures will be made available, with the expectation that campers will catch up by watching any missed sessions. Online instructor office hours will be scheduled as needed throughout the week.

What is the registration deadline?

The registration deadline is July 20, 2022.

Where will the boot camp take place?

The boot camp will be held online.

What is the cancellation policy?

A full refund will be given for a cancellation made by July 11, 2022.
